Foundation for Xenological Studies

On the surface, its an organization dedicated to studying cultural aspects of known alien civilizations, founded on May 26th, 2017. This is merely a front for the Foundation's true work, which is focused more on the unknown then the known. The FXS keeps extensive records of technological artifacts which have been located, appropriates ones that have not been seen before, and covertly encourages individuals who have been allowed to keep their artifacts to use them in the hope that they will uncover new functionalities. The FXS cooperates with ArcXen on the subject of Artifacts and Locations. FXS is funded primarily by private benefactors, the identities of whom are a closely-guarded secret. FXS is the successor to several previous organizations, both government and private, dating back to at least the late 1920s.

Facility Zero

FXS's primary operations base. Contains secure storage for Objects, research facilities, and FXS Command.

Facility Seven

A secret location in the near Pluto, disguised as a sensor outpost built into a large planitesimal. This facility is a joint operation between FXS and ArcXen dedicated to the study of alien artifacts. Facility Seven does indeed function as a sensor outpost for the Sol System Monitoring Network, but its primary duty is the joint work that goes on there between FXS and ArcXen. Unlike 'normal' monitoring outposts, it is not run by Spacewatch, but Spacewatch is aware of its existence.

Genome Mutations

As the inheritors of much work done by predecessor organizations, FXS has developed a system of categorizing certain genetic flags for 'non-standard indicators' in a person's genome.

Genome Mutation 1

This is the mutation that allows for innate magical talent in Humans.

Genome Mutation 8

While this has no outward manifestation, it is indicative of a Yoitsuni having mingled in the subject's pedigree at some point.

Genome Mutation 27

This is the presence of Jol'Koar/Ter'Ra genomic material in a subject's DNA. When dominant, it manifests visibly as gold irises.

Genome Mutation 40

This is the mutation required to give a Human psionic potential.

Language Classification

Language Zero

The predecessor to Linear A was found on Object Zero and in Location Zero. This is Old JolKoar, and is found hidden all over the Sol System. While FXS does have translation algorithms for this language which can produce sounds, there is no context for the sound as Old JolKoar is a highly idiomatic language that is essentially impossible to understand without the requisite cultural and historical context. Lone words have been figured out over the years, but they are simple things like 'On,' 'Off,' and names of the planets. Following contact with non-hostile JolKoar in the wake of the Battle of Pluto, the decryption of this language has been proceeding at a much faster pace. Additionally, in 2030 a JolKoar vessel associated with a trading House requested asylum with the Terran Alliance, bringing a wealth of knowledge that has allowed for near-realtime translation algorithms to be drawn up.

Language One

This is the Yoitsuni language's written form. It was first encountered by the ГНЯО in 1972 inside a cave system in the Kamkatchka Peninsula.

Language Five

This is Temperance, and has been found sparsely on Earth, but only ever in conjunction with Language Zero. It was first found on a hidden compartment inside Object Zero in 1985.

Language Seven

This is Action, and has only ever been found once in the Sol system.

Language Twelve

This is Teuthidoid Blink Code, a series of flashing lights that can be used like morse code to communicate with Teuthidoids.

Predecessor Organizations

"Fifteen Suits"

Active: Circa 2013 to Unknown (possibly still active)

A supposed informal society of the chiefs of MJ12 following that organization's dissolution by the Abraham Administration. The Fifteen Suits worked quickly to arrange for MJ12's archives and stashed objects to disappear from the government's oversight and make their way into secure private hands. During the War, the Fifteen Suits acted as a third-party in the Shadow Wars, striking against both the USA and the Allied Nations in an attempt to prevent the conflict from spiraling out of control - they feared Teuthidoid interference in the war due to the fact that the Abraham Administration had alienated them, and that the Teuthidoids might side with the Allied Nations which could lead to catastrophic results for the remnants of America. They did not act directly in the Shadow Wars, and instead chose to play both sides against each other through indirectly hired agents and confidants. After the war ended and ArcXen was created, the Fifteen Suits covertly handed over the preserved records and objects they had been able to salvage from the demise of MJ12. To this day, nobody is sure of the identity of any of the members of the Fifteen Suits, but the general consensus is that they were the chiefs of MJ12 when it was dissolved. The moniker "Fifteen Suits" originates from the fact that every time someone was contacted by the organization, it was by a shadowy figure wearing a business suit, and the number refers to the fact that there are fifteen distinct identities of the figures - however nobody is sure if they are simply the same person in disguises or if they are different people. It is uncertain what happened to the Fifteen Suits after they handed over their records and materials to ArcXen, and it is also uncertain if they handed over everything.

Flying Saucer Working Party (FSWP)

Active: 1950-1951 (Publicly), 1951-Unknown (Covert)

Formed by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defense, the FSWP was originally formed as the MOD's official study into UFOs. Following its final report and public dissolution in 1951, it continued to work in secret as a sort of 'unofficial working group' which existed off the books and had an effectively non-existent, unlimited budget. The FSWP's covert chair remains unknown, but they were very good at hiding the group's expenses among normal MOD transactions. As such, much of the FSWP's actions remain unknown, even to FXS, but some of the records obtained by FXS are stamped with the FSWP logo and are dated well after the 1951 dissolution of the Party. These records primarily focus on things in Great Britain and the British Overseas Territories, and usually involve artifact discoveries.

Active: 1927 to 1986

GUPO was founded by direct order of Joseph Stalin in 1927 following the investigation of the Tunguska Event. While the Tunguska Event was determined to be merely an airburst of a large asteroid or comet (the jury is still debating that to this day), it was decided to assemble a group of scientists to study future mysterious phenomenon, so GUPO was formed within the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Unlike Majestic 12 - its American counterpart founded after World War II - GUPO branched out into studying more esoteric unexplainable phenomenon (the American government had no equivalent for this function of GUPO). During the Cold War, they studied the scientific principles of the three basic forms of magic, and pioneered a new, simpler method of producing devices for use in device magic. GUPO was dissolved after the disastrous outcome of their research into Destruction Spirits that they were overseeing in Chernobyl in 1986. Following the dissolution of GUPO, their duties and much of their staff were transferred into a branch of the Ministry of Defense - the Необъяснимая управление (Unexplained Directorate, or simply H Branch). While GUPO has long been dissolved, the effects of their research into magic resonate to this day. Their work classifying innate magic into the three basic forms is still used as the basis for the SDA's classification system, and the devices which survived the Chernobyl disaster have found their way across Earth and across the Alliance into the hands of everyone from wealthy private collectors to children who stumble across one.

Необъяснимая управление [Unexplained Directorate] (НУ or Н Branch)

Active: 1986 to Unknown (possibly still active)

H Branch was the direct successor to GUPO, the Russian organization that studied extraterrestrial and magical phenomena. Unlike GUPO, H Branch was a military organization, and as such its activities had a distinctly more militaristic slant. Following the transition from GUPO to H Branch, Russian research into these fields was aimed solely at the usage of objects and phenomena to further the direct goals of the Russian government, research into purely scientific endeavors was abandoned at the insistence of H Branch's superiors. Following contact with the Tuethidoids, H Branch was in charge of the relations program with the still-secret alien race, and engaged in several joint research projects with them, including a shadowy project with the Future Research Fund (ФПИ) known as PROJECT RED SOLDIER. During World War 3, Н Branch was utilized by the Russian Government for their Shadow Wars campaigns, however due to the lack of trained natural mages inside Russia during the war, they were forced to rely more on their ability to produce devices and their stockpile of technological artifacts. H Branch was obsessed with capturing mages from the other Shadow War factions, but they met with little success in this endeavor. H Branch presumably remains active to this day.

Majestic 12 (M12)

Active: 1946 to February 2013

Founded by executive order of President Truman in 1947, and dissolved by executive order of President Abraham in 2013. Majestic 12 was initially responsible for investigating and covering up the Roswell Incident, following the conclusion of that operation it was placed in charge of investigating all reports of extraterrestrial activity in the United States and its territories. Upon its dissolution, the chiefs of the group formed the informal society which became known as the "Fifteen Suits." MJ12 was notorious for employing their Men In Black (a veritable legion of seemingly identical black-suited, sunglass-wearing male and female employees) to suppress evidence of extraterrestrial activity and retrieve assets and materials. Rumors that the Men In Black were clones, aliens, robots, or the like are known to be false - MJ12 had very good makeup artists on staff and had strict body structure requirements for MIB service due to unknown reasons. Rumor abounds that MJ12 wasn't completely dissolved, and some elements of it wound up working for the Abraham Administration as part of the Administration's Shadow Wars operations. To this day, sightings of Men In Black persist.
