Ring of Duke Astaroth - Twenty-Ninth Fragment of the Seal of Solomon

Jump to navigation Jump to search

According to numerous traditions, the mythological King Solomon used a signet ring (engraved by the Abrahamic God and gifted to him by the archangel Michael) to command demons. In legend, Solomon used these demons to construct the First Temple of Judaic lore. Solomon would later go on to lose the ring when he abandoned his beliefs for carnal desires, and the ring was lost. While no True Artifact bearing the designation Solomon's Seal - Engraved Ring of Control has ever surfaced, what has surfaced are several artifact fragments related to the legend.

Each of these fragments grants control over a specific creature similar to the demons of the legend of King Solomon detailed in the 17th-century occult work The Lesser Key of Solomon. Theoretically, if Solomon's Seal - Engraved Ring of Control did exist, it would be able to switch between the abilities of all 72 theorized fragments at the bearer's whim.

All known fragments of Solomon's Seal lack the normal Dismissed state that other artifacts have, however each of them possesses an additional unique device ability beyond the usual set of Activated, Device Power, and Greater Ability.

Activated - Ruler of 40 Legions

The Ring of Duke Astaroth can only be Activated while it is evoked. When Activated, the Ring summons a number of additional Entities equal to the bearer's character level. These are constructed by the GM using Yoitsuni servant summoning (at a level 1/4th that of the bearer using the sum of the 2 lowest customization point totals available for the current level) and are under the command - but not control - of the bearer.

Unique Device Power - Duke Astaroth

When evoked, the Ring of Duke Astaroth summons the Astaroth Entity bound to it. This functions as a servant constructed using the rules for Yoitsuni Servant Summoning as if the bearer was a Yoitsuni of the appropriate level, using the sum of the 2 highest customization point totals available for the current level. The servant is constructed (with input from the player) by the GM and controlled by the GM, but the bearer has some measure of command over it.

Unique Device Ability - Snake Charmer

The bearer of the Ring of Duke Astaroth does not take the normal -5 penalty on Persuasion checks when dealing with undomesticated creatures with an Intelligence of 2 or lower. At level 5 and every 5 levels thereafter, the bearer gains a talent chosen from the following list (all are from the Shamanism talent tree of Magic Talents): Bonded Mount, Entreat Beast, Soothing Presence, and Wild Sense. The bearer may make a Persuasion check with a +5 bonus in place of any Magery check that they would have to make for these talents. All the functions of this Unique Ability only apply to snakes and snake-like creatures.

Unique Device Greater Ability - The Duke Answers All Questions

The bearer of the Ring of Duke Astaroth can make all knowledge skills untrained, and gains a +5 circumstance bonus to any knowledge skill they are trained in or can already make untrained checks for.
